The Medina (old town) of Fès is a real labyrinth. If you really want to experience this city, you have to dive into town without fear of getting lost. In Fès there is a bustle of crafts, trade and education.
After tasting the bustling life in the city, a desert stay is a welcome respite for all the senses. The desert washes clean the soul, according to ancient nomadic wisdom.
Relax in the desert, cross ravines and passes, and then arrive rested in the pulsing city of Marrakech.
Early in the morning you will be picked up at the famouse Bab Boujeloud ( Blue gate) or at your hotel / riad. The journey goes along the red-brown mountains of the Middle Atlas towards the desert oasis Merzouga. In the mighty cedar forests we will leave the main track to visit the cute Berber monkeys. We will pass the pretty winter sports resort of Ifrane and Azrou, the region’s most important handicraft center specializing in cedar woodworking and carpentry. After the Zad Pass (2,178 m) we reach the mining town of Midelt, where lunch is taken. In the afternoon we will drive through the glorious gorge of the Ziz to Errachidia, shortly thereafter begins the deep green palm oasis of the river Ziz, with the caravan town of Erfoud as the main town. From there we will continue to the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. After you have taken your wellcome tea, you are free to explore this unique landscape. In the evening we will serve you a freshly cooked dinner. When it gets dark we will watch the stars together and you can listen to our traditionel Nomad music. You will spend the night in a comfortable Nomad tent.
Day 2: Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Dades Tal – Dades Gorge
In the morning there is an early wake-up and a short camel ride so that you can experience the sunrise at the height of a dune. After breakfast, we drive back to Erfoud via Rissani, on the way you will have the opportunity to visit a workplace, where the millennia-old fossils found here are processed. The journey continues through the palm oases of Touroug and Tinejdad to the Todra Gorge, where we will have lunch in a restaurant at the narrowest point. In the afternoon we will continue via Boumalne to the Dades Gorge. There we will have dinner and spend the night in a typical Riad.
After breakfast we head back to the Kasbah Youl in the Dades Gorge, where we drive on an inconspicuous slope connection into the Valley of roses with its clay decorated Kasbahs. It goes through a beautiful landscape, it is best here in late April, when the fragrant roses bloom, from which the well-known rose oil is distilled. In Kelaa Mgouna you reach the road of the Kasbahs, here we pass the city of Skoura with the Kasbah Amerhidil. In Ouarzazate we will have lunch together. Our way goes along the spectacular pass Tiz’n Tichka (2,260 m) across the mountains of the High Atlas. You can enjoy the scenery and see stone and clay built Berber huts on steep mountain slopes. Goats and sheep are led to the pastures that flourish in the spring, mountain streams roar. We will arrive in Marrakech in the early evening.
